Cannelee Cased Repeating Carriage Clock by Drocourt – SOLD
A fine example of a Cannelee cased repeating carriage clock by Drocourt.
The polished gilt brass case is of Cannelee form which is a slightly simplified version of a Gorge design. It is in very nice condition and retains it’s original outer leather travelling case and original key.
The movement is of the usual high standard expected of Drocourt. It has a silvered lever platform and runs for 8 – days. Striking the hours and half hours on a gong it has the provision to repeat the hours on pressing a button on the top.
The crisp white enamel dial displays Roman numerals with blued steel ‘Breguet’ hands. The dial is signed by the retailer ‘Payne & Co 193 New Bond Street, London’. A gilt brass mask finishes the dial nicely.
Drocourt was a very fine maker of carriage clocks in the 19th century. He was awarded numerous prizes for his work and the name has become synonymous with quality in this field. This clock bears the Drocourt number 15178.
