Longcase Domestic Regulator by Benniworth – SOLD

A superb domestic regulator by Thomas Benniworth of St Albans.

The substantial six pillar movement has a number of most interesting features.  The back cock has four screws to aid with rigidity.  The movement has hardened steel end stops fitted to all bearings, including an elegant strip screwed to the back plate.  The movement is fitted with bolt type maintaining power even though the clock has always been fitted with a recoil escapement.

The 12″ square silvered dial is very well engraved with a well balanced recessed sub seconds chapter.  The blued steel hands have lovely detailed spades with a large crescent counter balance to the seconds hand.

The weight is suspended from a large diameter pulley.  The pendulum is substantial with a large heavy brass bob suspended on a wood rod.  The rating nut is silvered and engraved with graduations.  .

The mahogany case is in fantastic original condition with lovely detail to the graining to the solid door and base. The fluted hood corners are quarter brass inlaid.

An extremely fine quality provincial domestic regulator that would grace any room.

The clock is fully restored and ready for immediate delivery.
