A superb Regency Mahogany bracket clock of fine proportions.
The single pad topped Mahogany veneered case is in fine condition with a lovely rich colour tone to the finish. The case is dome topped with inset brass binding and a brass inlaid detail. The Ebony side bevels have a further brass inlaid detail. The base is capped with an Ebony finger moulding and sits on brass ‘Ogee’ feet. The case sides are adorned with brass ‘fish scale’ type sound frets with green silk backing.
The striking movement runs for 8 – days and is a fine London fusee movement. The gut lines power a recoil anchor escapement controlled by a ‘London’ type pendulum with steel rod and heavy brass bob. The clock strikes the hours on a single bell.
The 7″ diameter white painted dial has been sensitively restored and is in excellent condition. Displaying the time with Roman numerals. The blued steel hands are exquisite, the design being made up of a series of rings terminated with tear drops. The dial sits behind a domed glass mounted in a cast brass bezel.
Signed on the dial: Dwerrihouse & Carter, Berkley Square, London.
